"My Family Eating Italian" 2003
My mother-in-law, Ruth Brachfeld, has an expression I appreciate. "When I look in the mirror, I see white hair. However, I also see that young girl who is who I am!"
The following is a reference to Denver circa 1950--”South Park" or "The Laramie Project". Denver was a cow-ski-town; it was small in population, size and national influence. Change began mid-1960. Like many in my generation, except those who fixated on channeling dominant authority characters, I expanded my horizons.
Artistically, I studied from live, nude models. Artistic concepts, theories, experiments and philosophies were mine to peruse. To understand the broader scope, doors opened into history, literature, music, philosophy, comparative religion, politics, and geology. As my desire for knowledge deepened and expanded, my artistic ability developed. I thrived in a learning mode. I loved and enjoyed following my bliss (thank you, Professor Campbell).
There are wordsmiths from whom I've taken great pleasure and thought. I’d like to note a few: Garrison Keillor, Hermann Hesse, C. S. Lewis, Ken Kesey, David Sedaris, Click & Clack: Tom & Ray Magliozzi, Shakespeare, Descartes, Thomas Jefferson & Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Friedman-Maureen Dowd-Frank Rich, Cosmologists: Albert Einstein & Brian Greene and Futurists: the Tofflers, Songwriters: Crosby,Stills,Nash & Young-Judy Collins-Bob Dillon-John Lennon-Eric Clapton-Paul McCartney.
Mine is a process of living. I've been allowed to meet, know and love many people. There are friends and relatives who I like, enjoy and love deeply. Our natural world I know is astonishing, remarkable, fascinating and complex. And, my own being continuing to carry me through, guide me on without which, I wouldn't know anything.
ART: A fine tuned corridor.
